Ahh, the “DNF” pile. It’s not very often that I don’t finish a book. Sometimes I force myself to power through. Sometimes, though…I just can’t. I get into these various genre moods…I want a contemporary, now I want fantasy, now I don’t want anywhere near fantasy. It’s a constant pattern-less cycle. These are 5 books that I started, but just couldn’t finish.
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
I’ve thought about reading this book several times. The one time I actually started reading it, though, I wasn’t feeling it. Maybe I wasn’t in the mood for a paranormal book at the time. The writing was really good, but I just wasn’t thrilled by the story. I do intend to read it next time I have a hankering for some paranormal/supernatural stuff.
Fish in a Tree by Linda Mullaly Hunt
I honestly couldn’t even tell you what this book was about. I want to say it’s middle grade…? Maybe? I think I heard it compared to Wonder and since then I just haven’t given it a chance. This isn’t exactly sitting pretty on my TBR pile right now.
Yes Please by Amy Poehler
I love Amy Poehler, don’t get me wrong. Part of the problem was that I was listening to it on audiobook…which doesn’t hold my attention very well. The other issue was that I generally steer away from non-fiction. I need plot! I need a storyline! If you like auto-biographies and you like laughing, then pick this book up. Maybe someday I’ll read the second half.
A Wrinkle in Time: Graphic Novel by Madeleine L’Engle
Confession: I haven’t read A Wrinkle in Time. I don’t know anything about it and I have no intention of picking it up anytime soon. There’s no rhyme or reason to it. I thought…hmm…maybe I’ll get into the graphic novel version. False. I got about 5 pages in and literally had no idea what was going on. I just kept saying out loud, “What? What’s happening?” I tried, people. I know this book is cannon, but “I just can’t even.”
DNF Turn Around Award: The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
I read this book’s prologue a couple months ago and wasn’t really feeling it. I picked it up again a few weeks ago and basically consumed it. I read it in one sitting and fell in love. This made my list of Best Books of 2015 (So Far). See? Sometimes you can turn things around!
What are some books you weren’t able to finish?
