My 5 Bookish True Loves

Sometimes when you’re reading, you experience a very real-ish connection to a character. Actually, this is one of my favorite things about reading – bonding with characters. For me, I can think of 5 characters that I fell into fictional love with. These are in no particular order.

anne of green

1. Gilbert Blythe from the Anne of Green Gables series.

What a man, am I right? He is all things honorable and strong and wonderful. I’ve only read this series through Anne of Avonlea (book 2), but I already love him. When he was talking about being a doctor and contributing knowledge to the world…mmm. The main reason I keep reading this series is because I desperately want to see how their relationship unfolds. The ending of Avonlea……….SO GOOD. I died a little from how precious it was.

2. Levi Stewart from Fangirl

If you’re not new to my blog, then you’re well acquainted with  my love for this book.If you are new…then you should know that I LOVE this book. A lot of that love stems from my adoration of Levi. He is honest and kind and considerate…and he makes a mean cup of coffee, apparently. Plus he’s a little bit country, which I find oddly attractive. I am Texan, after all.

3. Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a young woman in search of love must be in need of a Darcy. When he confesses his love for Elizabeth, I LOSE IT…every time. Darcy (by the end) is thoughtful and selfless and headstrong…which is a combination for success in my book.

4. Pen Alcott from The Queen of the Tearling

From the get-go, I knew I would love Pen. He is protective and loving and a swordsman = all of the yes. When Pen first entered the scene, I really wanted him and Kelsea to fall in love. He was very different from the other guards. I love a man who can set himself apart!

5. James “Jem” Carstairs from The Infernal Devices trilogy

In this series, everyone always falls in love with Will Herondale, but come on! JEM! He is gentle and brave and kind. He’s everything you want in a best friend, as well as a love. Just thinking about him makes me want to re-read this trilogy.

What fictional characters do you love?

Happy reading! – Caitlyn

  1. Jamie Fraser from Outlander is my tippy-top number one, but there are others. My Harry Potter boyfriend is Remus Lupin. My Jane Austen boyfriend is Colonel Brandon. And Sarah Dessen can write a dreamy love interest like no one else, but I think my favorite is Dexter from This Lullaby.
