5 Anticipated New Releases of 2016

As my first Top Five Thursday of 2016, I’m dishing up my top 5 stand-alones or series starters I’m excited about. There are going to be some great books this year…I can feel it, friends!

heir and spare

The Heir and the Spare by Emily Albright

Secret family secret? Secret royal family secret? So many secrets! This just takes me back to my Princess Diaries day (which should totally be pronounced with the inflection on Princess and not diaries, as we pronounce it for some reason. That just sounds silly!)  I love the royal families. I collect history books about the British lineage. It’s a thing with me. This book is going to be great, even if it isn’t. [Release date: January 18]

study in charlotte

A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallard

All you need to know is that it’s about John Watson’s great-great-grandson and Sherlock Holmes’s great-great-granddaughter. There’s a murder and they’re both there to figure it out. I sense tension. I sense humor. I sense that I will love this. [Release date: March 1]

burning glass

Burning Glass by Kathryn Purdie

This book seems right up my alley. Sonya has a rare gift that she’s kept secret from the empire, but something happens and she’s carted off to serve the emperor. There are assassins and alliances and intrigue. Yes, please! Gimme gimme! [Release date: March 1]

lady midnight

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare (The Dark Artifices book 1)

This book will kickstart another head on the Mortal Instruments beast that Cassandra Clare has birthed. This new series takes place in Los Angeles, 5 years after the Mortal Instruments ended. I think her writing is really interesting and her characters have so much depth. I’m really curious about the direction of these new books. [Release date: March 8]

star touched

The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi

Inspired by Indian mythology, this book has an influential horoscope, an arranged marriage, and lots of mystery. All that adds up to right up Caitlyn’s alley. This kind of sounds like it has similar elements to The Wrath and the Dawn, but it’s also really different…if that even makes sense. I’m looking forward to this one! [Release date: May 3]

What new releases are you excited about for 2016? Let me know in the comments!

Happy reading! – Caitlyn

  1. I’m really looking forward to A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas, and the next book in the Throne of Glass series (also by Sarah J. Maas). I’m excited for The Raven King as well, even though I’ll probably get around to reading it next year when the paperback version is printed :). That’s all I can really think of right now!! Great post! I really enjoyed it 🙂
