If the Half Price Books fairy arrived and handed me a gift card with enough money to buy any 5 books, this is what I’d run off and purchase. (Yes, I know that’s not how gift cards work. Ha!)
It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
It’s confession time: I’ve never read a Colleen Hoover book. I’ve heard a lot of great things about this one, so this is one I would choose if I wasn’t spending my own money. Ha! You know what I mean? I don’t know for sure that I like Hoover, so I’d use a gift card to buy it. In this book, the main character Lily, is dating a handsome neurosurgeon (Grey’s Anatomy, anyone?). As she and Ryle struggle with their new relationship, Lily begins thinking about her first love, Atlas. Interesting character names, love strife…I’m all over it.
A.D. 30 by Ted Dekker
I love historical Christian fiction (see my review on my favorite HERE). Set in Arabia and Palestine, Maviah, the daughter of a powerful sheikh, escapes an enemy’s attack with two of her father’s warriors. One of these men is a powerful warrior and the other is a Jew from a tribe that can read the stars. Maviah’s goal? To align herself with Herod, King of the Jews. Along her journey, she meets a man named Yeshua, a teacher who speaks about life and power in a way Maviah’s never heard before. I’ve been wanting to read this book since I heard about it a few months ago, but I just haven’t picked it up yet!
Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine
Recently, a few different people have recommended this book to me. I want to read it and I have a feeling that I’d grab it if I had a gift card in my hand right now! In this book, the Great Library of Alexandria lives on. Personally owning a book is forbidden and alchemy controls the flow of information. Jess Brightwell wants to serve the library, but his final test involves him spying on his own family. When historical fiction meets fantasy…I’m in!
My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows
This book came out on my birthday this year in June and I’m really surprised I haven’t read it already! This is the (not entirely) true story of Lady Jane Grey, who’s about to become the Queen of England. Told in the style of The Princess Bride, this book is full of humor, romance, and spunk…apparently. A gift card would encourage me to take the plunge with this book! I’m not confident that I’ll love it. That’s probably why I haven’t picked it up yet.
The Rose & the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh
I loved…LOVED…the first book in this series, The Wrath & the Dawn. I’m scared to read this sequel, though. What I loved about the first book is that it was exactly what I needed at the exact right time. I’m sure if I re-read it today, I wouldn’t love it nearly as much. It was just one of those books. I haven’t bought or read this book yet because I just don’t know what to expect or hope for!
What books would you buy right now, given the chance? Let me know in the comments below!
Happy reading! – Caitlyn
