This year, I wanted to do something a little bit different. For the last 2 years, I’ve come up with a list of 50 challenges that I had to complete over the course of the year. I managed to pull the challenges off both years, but it didn’t work out the way it was probably meant to. The purpose was to try for challenges that put me outside of my normal reading comfort zone. Instead, I’d just read whatever I wanted, then see if I could make it fit with the challenges. By the end, it got a bit hairy and sometimes I made books stretch to fit a challenge. That just seems more trouble than it’s worth. So instead, I’m going to take on the Around the World in 80 Books Challenge! (Insert echoes..)
I’m not going to limit this challenge to one year. I’m just going to start it now and see how long it takes me because I want to do it right. I’d like to read a variety of fiction, non-fiction, as well as graphic novels and audiobooks…a nice variety of experiences and cultures. I want to stretch what I know about the world and challenge myself to learn more.
I’ve decided to leave out any books that are set in a fictional realm or land, as they uh…aren’t on a map of our world. That doesn’t mean I won’t be reading any fantasy, it’s just very likely that they won’t fit with my challenge.
I’m going to try using the app Mark O’Travel to keep track of where I’ve “travelled” in my reading. So far I’ve “visited” London, England and South Africa. Periodically, I’ll post updates to let you know how my challenge is going! You can also keep track with me in the My Reading Challenge tab at the top of the page.
Let me know in the comments below if you have any suggestions for my reading journey!
Happy reading! – Caitlyn
